Some Illustrations of Cavalry on the Eastern Front

The Eastern Front has always been a source of mystery and even more so when it came to the German Army's involvement. One of the unique aspects of the Eastern Front was that cavalry still had a viable tactical role on the battlefield, and the German Army exploited as much as it could..

Below are some illustrations by the German artist Friedrich Ludwig Scharf. An artist by trade, Scharf served in the Germany Army on the Eastern Front and made quite a number of illustrations of the solders serving there. These are probably some of the best illustrations of the era and go a long way in identifying uniforms and equipment and especially for cavalry.
